Welcome to the UK Fly Casting Scene

Tournament Fly Casting Events

(1) Single-handed Fly Distance (BFCC Event T38): This casting event (ICSF event 2) is the one which attracts those distance junkies who have met the challenge of the 55 yard club goal and now want to hone their distance-casting skills by competing with other like-minded casters at the Local, National, European, and World levels. Unlike the 55 Yard Club qualification, this event has more restrictions since we are complying with international rules. Those who perform well in the BFCC events are encouraged to compete for Great Britain in ICSF-sanctioned casting tournaments.

General Equipment & Rules:

  • ROD: Maximum length of 3 meters (9 feet 9 inches).

  • REEL: Must be attached to rod. Must hold the complete fly line outfit including all backing.

  • FLY LINE: Airflo T38 orange tournament shooting heads or cut down Scientific Anglers T40 flylines cut down to 38 grams are permitted in case another line is used. Minimum shooting head length is 15 metres (49 feet 3 inches) and maximum weight is 38 grams. For youths, ladies and seniors, a minimum shooting head length of 13.5 metres/34 grams maximum is permitted. Leader loops allowed.

  • LEADER: Minimum length 1.8 metres and maximum length 3.6 metres. Leaders will be constructed of unweighted nylon.

  • FLY: ICSF or ACA approved distance fly. Wool fly approved by the senior judge is acceptable.

  • All casts will take place on flat ground without the aid of a platform.

  • Distance Badges to be attained: 45 yards and up.

  • Time Limit: 6 minutes.

(2) Double-handed Fly Distance (BFCC Event T120): This event challenges the casters ability to master rod weight and length with strength and technique. Casting a double-handed salmon rod (especially tournament rods to 17 foot) is very popular in the USA & Europe, and is arguably the most physically demanding of all fly casting events. A full double-handed casting outfit will be provided by the BFCC.

!!!!STOP PRESS!!!!: Because many anglers are not used to casting a 17 foot/120 gram salmon outfit, we are offering 3 lighter classes for our casters to try out. They are:

55 Gram Class

95 Gram Class

112 Gram Class

  • THE BFCC WILL PROVIDE COMPLETE OUTFITS TO INTERESTED CASTERS FOR THE WEIGHT CLASSES ABOVE

  • THE PERSON WHO CASTS THE LONGEST DISTANCE REGARDLESS OF WEIGHT CLASS WILL RECEIVE THE SALMON DISTANCE TROPHY
