North East Surfcasting Association

We are a small club with approximately 25 members & have about 7 meetings per year. It is an extremely friendly club and has a relaxed atmosphere probably due to the fact that it run purely as a practice day, with no emphasis on winning.

We have an extremely high standard of casting with approximately 17 of our regular casters having competed at national level.

Our field at present is Kirkleatham Showground, which measures about 400 by 600 yards, it is perfectly level and is surrounded by trees.

It is however a public access field so safety is paramount, it is also very close to the coast, so we do tend to move the court endlessly.

Visiting casters are always welcome as are spectators.

Casters Profile: - Martin Watson.

Martin has been casting for approximately 2 years and entered his first competition in August '98, on that day he cast 226yds his first cast. With a small amount of advice he improved this to 249yds. This was still his first competition.
His next comp saw him attend the N.W.S.A. event where he cast an impressive 255 o.t.g. He was quickly drafted in as a last minute reserve for the N.W.S.A. Clubmans team and his third comp saw him taking 3rd overall in the clubman side with his first ever 125gm cast.
Since then he has attained a massive 294yds at Davidstowe, 287yds at Kirkleatham, 287yds at Blackpool & 278yds at Wrexham. He is the only person to win a UKSF Grand Prix since 1998, all the rest being won by "Danny Moeskops", he also won the "Total Sea Fishing" sponsored "British Championships" in its first year (because nobody is good enough to win anything).
What gear did he use for these impressive casts, well after that first comp he was approached by GREYS of Alnwick who wanted to design a rod for tournament casting, the rod he produced was the PZ300T, it was very nice if a little rough (however John Lambert has now altered the rod to take the rough edges off it and it looks very nice). Martin then decided to keep, as close to Danny as possible, he thought he should use the same gear.
Century were approached & provided Martin with a sixteen foot Raptor that eventually ended up at around 14'6".
This year Martin has settled on a Zziplex XTR for all his tournament work, matched to Ultramags & CT Rockets.
His one regret is he would have liked to cast in anger against such people as Paul Kerry & Neil Kelland. This obviously shows a great deal of respect and admiration for these people. So who does he admire from the current bunch of casters, "well obviously Danny Moeskops for the sheer brilliance of the man as well as being the nicest bloke you could ever meet. Peter Thain for driving him on and showing him that technique is everything. Finally Andy Green for the man is exceptional on the lighter weight".
So does Martin have any advice to offer the average man ? "The best bit of advice I ever got was slow down and the only thing I can add is don't take it too seriously, if you told anybody what we did they would laugh themselves to death."
